BRI Business Recovery and Insolvency, local business recovery and insolvency specialists, have expanded their Milton Keynes team located in Exchange House, Midsummer Boulevard with the appointment of two new employees, Suki Bains and Meena Maisuria and the transfer of Ian Cooke from the Northampton office.

Peter Windatt, an Insolvency Practitioner with over 21 years insolvency experience, leads the BRI Milton Keynes team. He is pleased with the continued expansion and states “BRI continues to enhance its services to the Milton Keynes community.” BRI is proud of the fact that the majority of its referrals come from fellow professionals– in particular accountants and solicitors. However, increasingly referrals are coming through former satisfied customers “These are people assisted by BRI in the past, often without charge and without the need for any formal appointment. This, I believe, reflects the high quality of practical, straightforward advice offered by us. Always the best advice irrespective of what is in it for us.”
Ian Cooke has already been with the firm for six years and brings with him some thirteen years of insolvency experience. Ian will shortly start studying for the professional Joint Insolvency Examinations Board exams in order to gain his licence as an Insolvency Practitioner. In his spare time Ian manages a local under 10’s football team sponsored by BRI.
Meena Maisuria joined BRI in July 2006. She has a background in finance and administration and is returning to work having taken a career break with her two children.
Suki Bains also joined BRI in July 2006 as an insolvency administrator. She previously worked as an insolvency analyst in Leeds and for the Official Receiver in St Albans. Her role will be to assist the Milton Keynes team in handling a portfolio of cases and in promoting the firm locally. Suki plans to study for her Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency in January 2007 before progressing to the JIEB exams.
Delighted with the growth of the Milton Keynes team, Peter Windatt states “an influx of new blood is just what we needed and we remain on the look out for more insolvency personnel who might be interested in joining our fast growing office”.
The key to insolvency advice, as Peter explains, is being consulted at an early stage. “Our biggest hurdle to overcome is the pride or fear of the individuals affected, who invariably have an unfounded preconception of the role of an insolvency practitioner. Most people we see are surprised at our approach and our ability to assist them with dealing with what for them is an unfamiliar and difficult situation. No-one goes into business expecting to fail or planning to meet an insolvency practitioner. Very often people regard it as an admission of failure. We try to explain what the worst possible outcome might be and then improve on it thereby overcoming their fears. The alternatives we can put forward then become much more palatable and their decisions can be made on a more informed basis”.
Saving jobs and securing futures is a key part of BRI’s work. Recent success in just one case has saved some 50 full and part-time local jobs and have allowed the business to continue trading. The common factor in such cases is that the directors, or their professional advisors, spoke with BRI immediately that they spotted problems on the horizon.
